Located 25 miles north of Houston, back in 1947 Spring only had 700 residents. Further back, in the 1840s, many immigrants settled into the area and started farming. The main cash crops at the time were sugar cane and cotton, and residents were known to grow their own vegetables. In addition, people came from the southern U.S. to settle into Spring after the Civil War.
