2 men arrested in string of 'unprecedented' area bank robberies, police say

At a news conference Friday, Madison police Chief Mike Koval said 29-year-old Jonathon L. Thompson and 18-year-old Kiefah A. Marbra were arrested Thursday in connection with multiple ongoing bank robbery investigations that took place over about six weeks. Banks in Madison, Fitchburg, Sun Prairie and Middleton were held up.


The assisted living facility where an 84-year-old woman was found dead in December is now allowed to accept new residents again after earlier violations had been corrected. The Department of Health Services conducted a verification visit Feb. 22, 2018 at Faith Gardens Memory Care in Sun Prairie and determined the facility was in substantial compliance with the requirements governing community-based residential facilities, so the order as lifted barring the admittance of new or additional residents.

A Sun Prairie man was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in prison for a knife attack on his former girlfriend. According to a criminal complaint, Tyras C. Tolden, 21, showed up at the woman's apartment after she had kicked him out, asking to get back together with her.

Driver may have tried deliberately to hit Dane County deputy

The Dane County Sheriff's Office says a young man from Sun Prairie may have purposefully tried to hit a deputy who was investigating a rollover crash Friday night in Cottage Grove. A news release Saturday says both lanes of traffic on USH 12/18 had been closed because of the crash, which happened around 8:30 p.m. Officials were waiting for a county salt truck to make the area safer when a car passed the road flares, as well as a squad car with its emergency lights on.

Driver disregards deputy, causes high-speed secondary crash, officials say

A Dane County Highway truck was struck Friday evening while waiting to dispense salt at the scene of a rollover that had occurred earlier, officials said in a news release. According to the release, Dane County deputies were investigating a rollover crash Friday night that closed both directions of U.S. Highway 12/18 in the Township of Cottage Grove when the truck waiting to salt the area covered in black ice was hit head-on by a driver who disregarded road flares.
